Cats, known for its fascinating lighting effects and large sets, has the honor of being the longest running show on Broadway. Based on TS Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this play has been dubbed 'the musical of the century' and for good reason; Cats has entertained more than 65 million people worldwide in more than 150 cities. It is so popular it earned a London Evening Standard Award, an Olivier Award in 1981, and seven Tony Awards on Broadway in 1983!

The musical begins with The Jellicle Cats gathering for their annual celebration in the junkyard. Each year the Jellicle Cats hold a Jellicle Ball during which one special feline is chosen for admittance into heaven and rebirth. The honor of choosing which cat is reborn is given to the oldest and wisest cat, Old Deuteronomy. However, before Old Deuteronomy can tell the cats his decision, he is captured by Macavity the Mystery Cat who is infuriated at having been left out of the ball.
