The Tennessee Titans rallied throughout the season to finish with a 10-6 record. Although they finished third in the AFC South behind the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars, they still managed to clinch a wild card position for the playoffs. The Titans started off strong in the first game against the Jacksonville Jaguars when Vince Young, Chris Brown, and LenDale White recorded a combined rushing total of 282 yards which set a new franchise record. In the win against division rivals the Houston Texans, kicker Rob Bironas set a league record kicking eight field goals in one game, the most in a single game in NFL history. The Titans were off to a 6-2 start but then lost three games in a row putting pressure on the playoff race. In the loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Titans came in as the league’s top-ranked run defense but found it difficult to apply that statistic in the game. Quarterback Vince Young threw a 20-yard touchdown pass which was his fist in 115 pass attempts. The following week, Young threw two interceptions on consecutive drives ending the chance of a comeback to the Denver Broncos. However, he did earn a game ball in the second meeting with the Texans where he was 21-31 for 248 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. He finished the regular season throwing 17 interceptions, which needs to be improved for the Titans to see a Super Bowl birth next year. Bironas, who showed his skill earlier in the season, helped seal the win against division rival Colts by kicking a 54 and 33-yarder. Backup quarterback Kerry Collins replaced an injured Young and impressively threw 10-13 for 106 yards and helping lead the win. The final three wins of the season secured a wild card spot but the Titans lost in the first playoff game against the San Diego Chargers. Although Young threw an interception during the game, he was also the youngest quarterback to start for the Titans in a playoff game. The team shows a lot of potential for the upcoming year.
