After a dismal 4-12 season in 2006, head coach Jon Gruden led the team to redeem itself in 2007 finishing with a 9-7 record and an NFC South division win. The team also secured a spot in the playoffs. Quarterback Jeff Garcia was solid averaging 24.3 yards per completion in the win against the New Orleans Saints. In the loss against the Detroit Lions, Garcia threw 37-45 for 316 yards and two touchdowns. At one point in the game, he completed 18 consecutive passes, a franchise record. Garcia was accurate throwing no interceptions until the loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he threw three in one game. The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback saw an injury mid season and backup quarterback Luke McCown filled in shocking Buccaneers fans throwing 29-37 for 313 yards and two touchdowns in the win against the New Orleans Saints. His efforts were pivitol following Gruden’s risky call to go for it on 4-and-2 from the 28-yard line when a field goal would have tied the game. But the mighty offense and McCown surged for the touchdown and beat the Saints. A close call for Tampa Bay came in week six when kicker Matt Bryant nailed a 43-yarder with 11 seconds on the clock. A memorable moment for Buccaneers fans was during the win against the Atlanta Falcons when second year kick returner Michael Sperlock gave the franchise its first ever kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Buccaneers went on to clinch the division title, but then lost in game one of the playoffs to the future Super Bowl title holders, the New York Giants. Super Bowl XLIII will be held in Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium on February 1, 2009 and the team plans to make it to the championship game and play in front of their home crowd. Be sure and buy your tickets now to see your Tampa Bay Buccaneers shoot for their second Super Bowl title!
