The Seattle Seahawks were projected to win the NFC title this year but came up one game short. They managed to finish the season with the NFC West division title and a regular season record of 10-6. Shaun Alexander has been the go-to-guy for the past few seasons but he was plagued with injuries leaving quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to find another scoring threat, which at times was difficult. The 2005 league MVP Alexander still managed to show some of his style throughout the season. He scored 105 yards on 27 carries for one touchdown in the opening win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As quick as they had a win, they added a loss to the record when the Arizona Cardinals scored in the last five minutes winning with a field goal in the last second. Hasselbeck was on fire throwing to seven different receivers for 248 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in the win against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team went on to play poorly being shut out by the Pittsburgh Steelers and then losing to the New Orleans Saints. Nate Burleson was the return king two weeks in a row as he returned the opening kickoff of the second half against the St. Louis Rams and then returned a 94- yard punt for a franchise record in the loss against the Cleveland Browns. The Seahawks went on to win five games in a row increasing their chances of a playoff spot. The streak was broken when the Seahawks lost to the Carolina Panthers, although wide receiver Bobby Engram notched his first 1,000 yard season. In the last game of the season, Alexander became the eighth player to score 100 rushing touchdowns. In the same game, Hasselbeck set a new club record with 3,966 total passing yards. The Seahawks 10-6 record clinched the NFC West division title and sent them into the playoffs for the fifth consecutive time where they were able to beat the Washington Redskins. Although the Seahawks started off the game the following week against the Green Bay Packers on fire with a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes, they were no match for Brett Favre. However; the 28-points recorded in the first quarter by both teams set an NFL record as the highest scoring first quarter in playoff history. The Seattle Seahawks weren’t able to emulate the 2005 season when they made it to Super Bowl XL, however they still played a consistent season. With continued work and a healthy Alexander, the Seahawks will continue to be a threat in the 2008 season. Grab your tickets now so you don’t miss out on any of the action |
