2007 Season Recap: The Jacksonville Jaguars showed a lot of promise entering the 2007 season and delivered well finishing with an 11-5 record, good enough for second in the AFC South and for a Wild Card playoff spot. The team has come a long way since its inaugural season in 2004. After last season, Del Rio gave the then quarterback Byron Leftwich the boot and promoted quarterback David Gerrard to the starting position. Gerrard was efficient in most of his games and began the season well. He went 17-30 for 204 yards and one touchdown in the first game and then 17-25 for 272 and one touchdown in game two. After the loss to the Tennessee Titans in week one, the Jaguars posted four wins putting them on the right track. The Jaguars had a turnover free game against the Houston Texans and running back Maurice Jones-Drew showed everyone how effective he can be. In the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who is just a short four hour drive away, Reggie Nelson intercepted Buccaneers' Jeff Garcia’s fourth down pass with 30 seconds left preventing the Bucs from producing a game winning score. Jones-Drew kept up his reputation setting a Jacksonville franchise record for his 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. As of week 12, Gerrard had thrown no interceptions. In the same week, kicker Josh Scobee tied the franchise record for five field goals made in one game. The defense went on to shine in the win against the Carolina Panthers as cornerback Clint Ingram ran back an interception for 39 yards for a touchdown and on the very next Jaguars possession, running back Fred Taylor ran for 80 yards for a touchdown. Gerrard was also potent throwing 20-36 for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The Jaguars gave the Pittsburgh Steelers their first home loss when the defense stopped a driving Pittsburgh offense with 41 seconds to go. Their 11-5 record was good enough for a Wild Card slot and in playoff game one, Gerrard ran for 32 yards setting up Scobee’s short 25 yard field goal with 37 seconds left on the clock. They went on to lose in the next game against the Super Bowl bound New England Patriots. The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to make an impression on the league and will soon be playing in their first Super Bowl game. Get your tickets so you can be there to watch that journey! |
