2006 Season Recap

The Houston Texans 2006 season was filled with high expectations.  Having the #1 overall pick in the draft made it even better until then GM Charley Casserly made a questionable move by selecting Mario Williams with the first pick overall instead of the electrifying Reggie Bush.  Needing an explosive player like Bush to complement David Carr and Andre Johnson, the questionable move has many in the city of Houston still throwing stones at Casserly for the pick.  Already having started the season on the wrong foot Casserly stepped down as GM and was replaced by Rick Smith in June of 2006.

After all the off-season distractions regarding the draft, the Texans were ready to hit the field.  Unfortunately for them so were their opponents.  Do to the lack of experience by their offensive line David Carr was one of the most sacked quarterbacks in the league.  Andre Johnson was solid as usual posting a career best 1,147 yards and 5 touchdowns with 103 catches.  The running game was by committee with Ron Dayne leading the way with 612 yards on the ground and 5 Touchdowns.  Expect great things from the Texans in 2007 as this young core of players look to emerge as unit and become a team to be reckoned with.

History

The Houston Texans are the latest expansion team in the NFL.  Thanks to the NHL denying a team to the city of Houston in 1997 Chuck Watson and Bob McNair decided to bring football back to Houston.  But it wasn’t until October of 1999 that the NFL granted Chuck Watson and Bob McNair their wish by expanding to 32 teams.  In January of 2000 the Texans name their first ever GM Charley Casserly.  Then in 2001 name their first ever head coach Dom Capers.  With their first draft the Texans selected their franchise quarterback David Carr with hopes of starting off on the right foot.  Adding to the pleasure of the city, the Texans win their first ever regular season game in a stunning defeat over their in-state rival the Dallas Cowboys.
