Texans Franchise History

The Houston Texans are the latest expansion team in the NFL.  Thanks to the NHL denying a team to the city of Houston in 1997, Chuck Watson and Bob McNair decided to bring football back to Houston.  But it wasn’t until October of 1999 that the NFL granted the duo their wish by expanding to 32 teams.  In January of 2000 the Texans named their first ever GM, Charley Casserly.  Then in 2001, Dom Capers was announced as the head coach.  With their first ever draft selection, the Texans selected QB David Carr as their franchise player.

2007 Preview

The Texans will have a new quarterback running their offense this year as Matt Schaub takes over the position.  Ahman Green will handle the running duties while wide receivers Andre Johnson and Keenan McCardell provide targets for Schaub.  The defense will be looking toward last year’s first overall draft pick, defensive end Mario Williams and rookie defensive tackle Amobe Okoye to lead.
