2007 Recap:

Back in March, Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna guaranteed that the team would win 10 games and would throw 50 touchdowns in the 2007 season. Winning 10 games seemed promising after the NFC North Detroit Lions opened the season with a pair of wins against the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings. Although the next game was a stinging loss by 35 points against the Philadelphia Eagles, receiver Roy Williams caught nine passes for and impressive 204 yards. The Lions went on to have a 6-2 start, which has not happened since 1999. The Detroit Lions were on their way to Kitna’s guarantee until they lost six games in a row, kissing Kitna’s prediction and a chance to make the playoffs goodbye.

In the first loss of the losing streak, the Lions finished with minus 18 rushing yards against the Arizona Cardinals, the teams lowest since 1946. Their next game against the soon-to-be Super Bowl Champion New York Giants wasn’t much better rushing for only 25 yards. After the next two losses, the team had only rushed for a combined 164 yards. In the fifth loss of the streak to the Dallas Cowboys, running backs Kevin Jones and TJ Duckett finally put up quality number with 152 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The Lions would go on to win only one more game which was to the Kansas City Chiefs in the second to last game of the season. Needless to say, Kitna’s guarantee of winning ten games just didn’t happen. His other guarantee – the one that said he would throw 50 touchdowns – also did not happen as he ended the season 31 shy of his prediction. Although second year Head Coach Rod Marinelli improved the team’s record from last season’s 3-13 record, he still couldn’t lead them to the playoffs. For a team that has never been to the Super Bowl, it is about time. And don’t you want to be there when they attempt to make franchise history? Buy tickets now so you can be a Lion and cheer the team to victory.
