Denver Broncos Venue: Invesco Field Conference: American Football Conference Division: West Owner: Pat Bowlan Head Coach: Mike Shanahan Broncos Franchise History The Broncos were originally an AFL team that was founded in 1960. Denver came close to losing its franchise in 1965. Thankfully, a local ownership group took control that year and began to build the team. They made their first playoff, and eventually Super Bowl, appearance in 1977. The franchise would be forever changed after the arrival of quarterback John Elway in 1983, arguably the greatest signal caller to play the game. Denver has reached the Super Bowl six times, winning it in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. 2007 Preview The Denver Broncos upcoming season is sure to be an exciting one as head coach Mike Shanahan looks to build on a mixed 2006 season. Second year quarterback Jay Cutler will again lead the offense along with Travis Henry and Mike Bell at running back. Wide receivers Rod Smith and Javon Walker will be Cutler’s main targets. Denver will look to continue the development of this offense and become a factor in the playoff race. |
