2007 Recap

The Cincinnati Bengals came into the 2007 season looking to improve on their previous 8-8 record and earn a spot in the playoffs. But with continuous mistakes on the field leading to an inconsistent season, accomplishing that goal proved to be impossible. The season started off on a positive note with a win against the Baltimore Ravens but a four game losing streak was soon to follow.

In the team’s first loss versus the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinatti Bengals had a chance to win the game but quarterback Carson Palmer, former USC’s golden boy, threw an interception with 21 seconds on the clock ending the game at 51-45. Although his effort lost the game, he still threw 33-50 for 401 yards and six touchdowns. The combined score of 96 is the eighth highest scoring game amongst rivals in the NFL.

Desperate for a win, head coach Marvin Lewis shifted the focus to the ground game in a week seven matchup against the New York Jets. Backup RB Kenny Watson rushed 41 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns to seal the victory. In the tenth week of the season, kicker Shayne Graham had a memorable night kicking 7 of 7 field goals recording a franchise record and falling one short of the NFL record. His points were the only points for the Bengals but were enough to give them win number three. Win four came against the Tennessee Titans as WR Chad Johnson became the Bengals’ all-time receptions leader with 531 catches. He finished the game with 12 catches for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Another notable wide receiver throughout the season was T.J. Houshmandzadeh who had at least one touchdown catch in 10 of the 16 games.

The Cincinnati Bengals finished their season 7-9, third in the AFC North, which gave head coach Marvin Lewis his first losing season. But now with the 2007 football season in the past, the Cincinnati Bengals are ready to pounce over the competition in 2008. Snatch up tickets now and be there when your Cincinnati Bengals tame the visitors and turn their purr back into a roar!
