Carolina was an expansion team but didn’t play like one. In 1995 the Panthers became the first team in NFL history to defeat a defending Super Bowl Champion, defeating the San Francisco 49ers. As one of the most recent expansion teams, the Carolina Panthers have not behaved like one and don’t expect to get treated like one. The Panthers have earned everyone’s respect by winning 12 games and capturing the western division title in 1996, only their second year of existence. The Panthers have one Super Bowl appearance, losing to the New England Patriots 32-29 in 2003.2007 Preview The Carolina Panthers upcoming season is sure to be an exciting one as head coach John Fox looks to continue to shape the team using their strong position players including quarterback Jake Delhomme, All Pro wide receiver Steve Smith and the stong running back tandem of DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams.
