Buffalo Bills’ ticket holders may remember a time in the 90s when their team was the team to beat, making it to the Superbowl from 1991-1994. The teams consisted of phenomenal talent, a quality defense, and consistency. Coach Jauron is continuing to work on bringing this team back up to that standard. The Buffalo Bills started the season off rocky losing their first three games to the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. Running back Marshawn Lynch made his impressive rookie debut in game one with 90 yards including a 23-yard touchdown. He later would catch a 56-yard touchdown to win the game against Cincinnati mid season. Bills ticket holders were used to seeing J.P. Losman in the quarterback position, but he was injured on the first play of the third game of the season against the Patriots. Rookie Trent Edwards stepped in and threw 10-20 for 97 yards and one interception. He saw his first career start the following week against the New York Jets and led the team to their first win of the 2007 season. The quarterback controversy would begin as Edwards through a solid 22-28 for 234 yards and one each of a touchdown and interception. Edwards was also solid late in the season winning against the Washington Redskins throwing for 257 yards and Miami Dolphins throwing four touchdowns for 165 yards.
The loss against the Dallas Cowboys in the second quarter was difficult for the team as they watched Dallas kicker Nick Folk nail a 53-yarder only to be called back because of Jauron’s called timeout. But without fail, Folk sailed it through the yellow poles once again. The Bills appeared to win the game as Jabari Greer stripped Cowboys’ Terrell Owens on a two-point conversion with 20 seconds left, but a lost onside kick gave the ball back to Dallas allowing them to set up for a field goal. This was the Bills’ second last second loss from a field goal this season. Buffalo Bills kicker Rian Lindell proved to be an asset in the win against the Baltimore Ravens with his four field goals. On another notable note, the Bills had a four game winning streak mid season, which is the longest winning streak for the franchise since 2004. However, the season ended on a less than stellar note losing the final three games of the season. The Bills experienced a brutal loss to the Cleveland Browns as they were shut out for the first time since 2003. Not only did they have to play the game in a blizzard, which made any great plays nearly impossible, but it knocked the Buffalo Bills out of playoff contention. The baseball like score of 0-8 has not happened since 1929 when the Chicago Cardinals played the Minnesota Red Jackets. Although the team finished the season second in the AFC East and with an identical 7-9 record to the 2006 season, the Bills show great potential for next season.
