2007 Recap: The Baltimore Ravens’ 2007 season looked promising after coming off a franchise-best 13-3 record and an AFC North division title during the 2006 season. Ninth year Head Coach Brian Billick planned to take his team to a second Super Bowl and clinch a third division title under his campaign, but Baltimore Ravens’ fans and Billick instead had to watch the team spiral down and out of contention for any of those hopes. The team finished last in the AFC North and with a dismal 5-11 record. The Ravens won two games inthe fourth quarter against the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals thanks to kicker Matt Stover. The Ravens kicker hit the 13th game winning field goal of his career against Arizona which was also his fourth successful kick of the game. In 2007, Stover became the fifth leading scorer in NFL history. After a hopeful 4-2 start, Ravens’ ticket holders then had to watch their team go on a franchise record losing streak of nine games in a row. Tough losses came versus the Cleveland Browns where Browns kicker Phil Dawson launched a 33-yard field goal in overtime after tying the game in regulation play with a 51-yard kick. The overtime kick was initially ruled incomplete when the ball bounced back through the posts, but was reversed handing the Ravens their sixth loss of the season. Their 11th loss came as a memorable one as it was the Miami Dolphins only win of the season. The Ravens had a chance to win as they tied the game and sent it to overtime but Stover’s missed 44-yard attempt handed the Dolphins their first win. Baltimore won the final game of the season at home finishing a disappointing season. Billick was let go the following day and John Harbaugh was announced the new Baltimore Ravens head coach in January. Harbaugh plans to take the Ravens back to the Super Bowl and it is now your opportunity to snatch up some tickets to see the purple and black make their come back! |
