Baltimore Ravens Venue: Georgia Dome Conference: National Football Conference Division: South Owner: Steve Bisciotti Head Coach: John Harbaugh 2006 Season Recap The Baltimore Ravens finished the 2006 season with a division best 13-3 record. However, a disappointing loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional playoffs kept them from reaching their Super Bowl dreams. The Ravens hope to build on a promising season and look ahead to 2007 with high expectations and commitment to become the best team in the NFL. The Ravens finished the regular season ranked as the #1 defense in the NFL. The Ravens defense, led by all-pro LB Ray Lewis and Pro Bowl safety, Ed Reed (both from the University of Miami), is one of the stingiest defenses the NFL has seen in quite some time. Offensively, the Ravens moved up the charts from their previous ranking of 24th in 2005 to 17th in 2006. The addition of QB, Steve McNair and other key free agent signings helped the offense complement the leagues #1 defense. Ravens Franchise HistoryOn November 6, 1995 the Ravens shocked the NFL audience by surprisingly stating that they will move from Cleveland to Baltimore. On February 9, 1996 the NFL approved the move, paving way for the organization to change the teams name form the original Cleveland Browns to today’s Baltimore Ravens. Ted Marchibroda became the Ravens first head coach and in their first draft the Ravens selected two future pro-bowlers, OL Jonathan Ogden (4th overall pick) and LB Ray Lewis (26th overall selection). The Ravens first regular season game at Memorial Stadium was sold out (64,124 fans) making it the largest professional sports crowd in Baltimore history. |
