After several years of rebuilding, the Jazz are ready to claim what they feel belongs to them and the city of Utah. They are led by third year guard Deron Williams and Duke University star Carlos Boozer. The Jazz have great outside shooting from Mehmet Okur and good defense and a slashing presence in Andrei Kirilenko. In the 2007 NBA draft, the Jazz acquired Ronnie Milsap, one of the most prolific rebounders in NCAA basketball history. Carlos Boozer led the team, averaging a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds per game. Deron Williams dropped in almost 19 points and 10.5 assists per game (2nd in the NBA behind Steve Nash). Okur had a good season, scoring 14.5 per night while shooting a lights out 45% from three point land. Ronnie Brewer, a great defensive player averaged 56% from the field and scored 12 points per outing. The 2007-2008 season was a battle in the Western Conference and the Jazz ended right in the middle of the top eight teams. Coached by Jerry Sloan, the Jazz ended the season with a 54-28 record and first in the Northwest Division. They also had the best home record in the NBA at 37-4, making the Energy Solutions Arena one of the toughest and most exciting places to watch an NBA game. |
