Tom Petty Info: In the 1970’s Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of the most popular bands around. They were country rock and roll and the music was heartfelt. The Heartbreakers had numerous hits in the late 70’s such as “American Girl” and “Breakdown.” Even with hits on the radio and a decent amount of friends, Tom Petty went bankrupt due to label problems. In the 1980’s Petty had more luck with his hits and albums. He had a duet with Stevie Nicks and it became a top 10 hit. In 1985, he started a tour with Bob Dylan and had another hit album called Southern Accent. After the album was recorded Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers decided to venture in different ways. In 1988, he was involved in a super group with stars like Roy Orbinson and George Harrison. Older artists that started out in the 70’s usually faded out in the 90’s with the grunge era. Tom Petty went against the mold and actually did better with his platinum album, Full Moon Fever. Right around this time he also reunited with the Heartbreakers and also released a greatest hits album. Later on he released Wildflowers; this was his biggest selling album ever. Tom Petty continued on releasing new music with and without the Heartbreakers. He has starred in a couple of movies and recorded a soundtrack for an Edward Burns movie.
