Toby Keith History: When you think of traditional country in about 10 years Toby Keith should be the first person to pop into your mind. He started off as a household name in country until September 11. He released a song called, “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue.” It was supposed to come off as an all American anthem; some people thought it was a little outrageous. He was compared to Merle Haggard with his political statements. It all came to a head when Peter Jennings objected to him performing on the Forth of July show. The media had a field day with it and it also sky-rocketed the song to number one. Beyond all this, Toby Keith has remained somewhat popular in mainstream country. When his new album was released it debut at number one and also created a few number ones hits for him; including a duet with Willie Nelson. There is a statement that says, bad press can be good press as well. This is true in the case off the all American boy, Toby Keith.
