Business members of the Association use a variety of methods to determine who will be the CMA winners from year to year. Got any predictions for 2009? Country phenomenon’s Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley have been the front-runners for the past few years and have not slowed down. They also hosted the awards in 2008 showing that not only are they talented and successful singers and songwriters, but they can host a show as well. Kenny Chesney saw a three peat when he won Entertainer of the Year in 2008. Underwood accomplished the same in the Female Voclaist of the Year category while Paisley has had the Male counterpart for two. Rascal Flatts has brought home a CMA for the past seven consecutive years. Classic winners and country music legends have been Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and Dolly Parton. Eddy Arnold won the first Entertainer of the Year back in 1967 when the CMA’s were not televised and just taking off. Since then, the event has been the country party of the year and an important moment for country stars. Opryland at the Grand Ole Opry held the CMA event for several decades before the awards show headed to the Sommet Center in downtown Nashville. The host location has yet to be determined for 2009 but you can be guaranteed one heck of a party.
