For more than a decade, the Black Eyed Peas have been a popular hip hop band with shades of pop and rock. They’ve earned numerous Grammy awards, have collaborated with some of the industry’s biggest names, and have created a fan base that stems across the globe. They have also sold more than 28 million albums worldwide.

The group first came on the scene in 1995 when will.i.am, apl.ed.ap, and Taboo joined together to create a band with a brand new sound. In their first eight years, they released two albums, Behind the Front and Bridging the Gap. In 2003, the standout vocalist and only girl Fergie joined the band, an important addition for the continued success of the band. While the first two albums generated some buzz, it was nothing compared to the buzz they received with their third album, Elephunk. Incredibly popular Justin Timberlake, former boy band member of *Nsync, teamed up with the Black Eyed Peas and recorded, “Where is the Love?” It became an instant smash and crept in to the top U.S. Hot 100 and number one in the UK. Hit singles followed suit with Shut Up and Hey Mama. Let’s Get Retarded was released as their next single to mixed reviews due to the controversial title. While some loved the funky and catchy song, others thought the wording was inappropriate and the song was slightly changed to Let’s Get It Started which was featured during the NBA Finals.

Monkey Business was the next album to be released by the Peas and in almost no time, the album went three times Platinum in the U.S. Top hits from the album were My Humps and Don’t Phunk With My Heart. Over the next few years, the Black Eyed Peas spent most of their time promoting their album and going on tour as Gwen Stefani’s supporting cast. They have been a phenomenon across the world and possibly could be more popular in other countries than here in the U.S.

Most recently the group released The E.N.D., which became their fifth studio album. Arguably their best album yet, Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling have been two extremely successful singles to come off the album reaching number one and number two on the Billboard Hot 100, joining a group of only 11 other artists to have completed the same feat. Meet Me Halfway is the third single off the album and shows the musical talent of the Black Eyed Peas. They are one of the top groups of the decade and will continue to dominate the charts well into the next decade as well if they continue to put out music the world loves. With 16 Grammy nominations and several other awards to their name, the Black Eyed Peas are entertaining, cutting edge, and one of the most creative musical groups of their time.
