Bette Midler began making a name for herself when she played the role of Tzeitel in Fiddler On the Roof on Broadway back in 1966 to 1999. Her next main project was as the lead singer in the Continental Baths, a gay bathhouse in NYC, where pianist Barry Manilow accompanied her. He went on to produce her first album, The Divine Miss M. The star continued to take off and began a spin into movies with Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Ruthless People, Outrageous Fortune, Big Business and the ever so popular and tear-jerker Beaches. Among many other movies that are on her resume, Midler earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in For the Boys. More current movies she has starred in have been Hocus pocus, The First Wives Club and The Stepford Wives.
Midler has also had success on television and on stage. She was the star in Gypsy, which was nominated for an Emmy award for the stage musical.
