In the 1980’s Aimee Mann was the lead singer of a new wave group called Til Tuesday. They had one hit song and a couple of decent albums before Aimee ventured out on her own. She released Whatever in the spring of 1993. The album received high expectations from critics, but the pop audience did not receive her folky songs. The album did however, rejuvenate her career. She continues to release solo albums in the 1990’s. She had some success with a song that was featured on a Melrose Place soundtrack, but was also having issues with her record contract. Finally, in 2000 Aimee got the break she needed. She recorded a soundtrack for the hit movie Magnolia and it worked. The hit song, Save Me was nominated for an Academy Award and her next album, Bachelor No. 2 was being sought after. Aimee Mann has been through a lot to become a noted songwriter and after her last couple of albums, I don't think she has much to prove anymore.
